Dr. Othman Al-Tahat, Head of Zarqa University's Department of Journalism and Digital Media, delivered a lecture on "Media Legislation and Professional Ethics" on Monday 22-5-2023, as part of the Jordan News Agency's comprehensive press course for a number of public sector employees.

As part of his presentation, Dr. Al-Tahat discussed the Jordanian media legislation regulating the media and journalistic work in the Kingdom. Among these are the Jordanian Constitution, the Press and Publications Law, the Access to Information Law, the Cybercrime Law, the Inviolability of Courts Law, and the Jordanian Journalists Syndicate Law.

In his presentation, Al-Tahat detailed the most prominent mistakes made by journalists, whether intentionally or unintentionally, that led to them being brought to court and a variety of judgments being issued against them.

According to him, the Faculty of Media provides students with a specialized subject in both the bachelor's and master's programs that provides them with an understanding of the legislation regulating journalism and media work in Jordan, so that they are sufficiently familiar with these laws when they graduate and join journalism institutions.

According to Dr. Amjad Safouri, the Dean of the Faculty of Media, this participation of the faculty is part of Zarqa University's commitment to serving the local community through the development of journalistic and media skills among public and private sector workers.

He added that this participation comes within the framework of the faculty's approach, which is represented by networking and continuous cooperation with Jordanian press and media institutions. In order to exchange expertise and experiences between the academic and practical tracks, the college will promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences between students and journalists from Jordanian institutions.

The organizers of the course praised the support provided by the Zarqa Company for Education and Investment, headed by Dr. Mahmoud Abu Shaira, to the various media institutions, as well as the experience of Zarqa University media professors, which enabled them to attain the necessary financial capabilities.
